$80 · Antique Gaudy Welsh salad bowl with brass rim and matching serving utensils
Antique Gaudy Welsh salad bowl with brass rim and matching serving utensils. Circa 1880-1890. Marked as pattern 3142 on the bottom of the bowl, this ironstone and brass set utilizes the traditional Imari colours of cobalt blue, rust/burnt orange and green on an ivory ground, with gold highlights. It is quite unusual to find the matching serving utensils still in existence. The ironstone handles of the serving pieces are decorated to match the bowl. The brass ends of the utensils are formed in the Arts and Crafts style, which was popular between the 1880's and 1910.
Bowl: Diameter is 9 inches (23 cm), Height is 4 inches (10.5 cm)
Serving utensils: 11¾ inches (30 cm) long
This set is in excellent condition, considering its age, with no chips, cracks or crazing. There is some discolouration to the brass, which gives the metal a nice, aged patina but which is probably removable if you choose to polish it.
