$100 · Antique sterling Scottish “luckenbooth” brooch from the late 1800’s
Antique sterling Scottish "luckenbooth" brooch from the late 1800's. Luckenbooth jewellery consisted of either a single or two intertwined hearts, often with a crown on top, and these pieces were given as love tokens or as talismans to ward off evil spirits. As you can see from the photographs, this brooch is formed by two interlocking hearts surmounted by a crown. The celtic engraving on the crown and hearts is still crisp and the clasp still holds firmly. The brooch is stamped sterling and Scotland and is hallmarked (see photo).
It measures 1¾ inches (4½ mm) in length and 1 3/8 inches (3½ mm) in width.
