Model Eleven belongs to a very special family of stereo receivers, designed and built to exceed expectations.
At different times, I have tested this Eleven against Sansui 9090DB, Marantz 2250 and Pioneer SX-1010,
and it simply sounded better than either of them, which is quite an achievement, for any receiver, regardless of price.
It has not one but a few of points that set it above competition:
1. Flowing/liquid sound (remarkably close to a tube amp)
2. Deep soundstage
3. Deep sweetness (honey-like)
4. Unusual detail/resolution (for a receiver, that is, separates usually do it better)
To find all four in one unit is almost impossible; Marantz 19 and Marantz 2330 come to mind, but those cost totally different $$$$.
The only thing it lacks is the speed, but as we all audiophiles know, fast amps with high damping factor almost always sound harsh.
Kenwood Eleven is the perfect two martini sound, where you go deeper and deeper until you drown in the music.
It is my firm belief that Eleven is way undepriced for what it is: A Gem Of Receiver Engineering.
It looks like a Quad receiver, but it's not: it's pure Stereo.
The front lights show exactly how deeply sweet it sounds.
At night, it's pure magic, watching the music transcending the lights, going back, forth and around.
These units are pretty rare in Canada, for some reason (can you guess why?) people don't want to sell them.
This is one of my finest receivers, I let it go with regret.
