In direct A/B testing with modded Tannoy C-10 and rightfully famous (among professionals) YSM-1 monitors, this Denon won against Cambridge Audio 540A and Rotel RA-971.
The CA 540A sounded dull/slow in comparison, while Rotel was more punchy, but with its bulldozer approach lacked insight into music.
Google search gave these quotes:
"...it managed to drive speakers rated at 85dB to very loud volumes without clipping or otherwise distorting."
"...its MM/MC phono section has respectable performance and high enough gain to drive a LOMC cart such as the 103R
with relative ease."
I've been collecting vintage stereos for a long time, so trades for old Sony, Tannoy, Sansui, JBL, Kenwood, Marantz, NAD, Philips amp, receiver, CD player, speakers in any condition will be considered.
