$5 · Hiroshige Deck of Playing Cards Vintage Japanese Souvenir

The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido, in the Hoeido edition (1833-1834), presented here, is a series created by Utagawa Hiroshige after his first travel along the Tokaido in 1832. The Hoeido edition of the Tokaido is Hiroshige's best known work. There are 56 cards in all, 52 playing cards, 2 joker cards, and 2 other cards. Beyond the fifty-three stations of the Tokaido, the series includes one print, 54th print, for the departure, Nihonbashi (the bridge of Japan), and a final one, the 55th print, Keishi, Kyoto, the imperial capital. The last card tells of the 53 stations in Japanese. The cards are incased in a plastic holder. Box measures: 1" h x 3 3/4" long x 2 5/8" w.
