The SR8100DC was the last model to be designed in Chatsworth California by Tom Ishimoto, while he was head of product development at Marantz, and manufactured by Marantz Japan. It was the spearhead of Marantz's new "Solid Gold Sound" advertising campaign.
Following the SR8100DC, all later receivers were outsourced and sported plastic faces.
Regarding the price, prices for nice high end Marantz models have doubled over the last 4 years; this is because new stereos are mostly built to be disposable, and made primarily for profits, not for music.
I've been collecting vintage stereos for a long time, so trades for old Akai, Denon, Kenwood, Tannoy, JBL, Mission, NAD, Yamaha, receiver, amplifier, CD player, speakers in any condition will be considered.
