$35 · Victorian bud vase with sterling silver rim
Victorian bud vase with sterling silver rim. England, 1898. This blown glass vase has six raised ridges, which swirl around the neck, one ridge originating from each point of the hexagonal base and continuing to swirl upwards to just below the sterling rim. The maker's hallmarks are stamped on the rim and they are: the initials A.W.P., an anchor, a lion, and the letter C inside a shield. These marks inform us that the bud vase was made by Arthur Willmore Pennington in Birmingham (England). The lion is the British stamp used on sterling silver and the stylized C is the date mark used in 1898.
The vase is 8 inches (20.5 cm) tall and 2½ inches (6.5 cm) wide at the base. There are minor scratch marks on the base, a small bubble in one of the ridges (which would have occurred as part of the manufacturing process), and some tiny dings in the rim.
Overall, the vase is in good, used condition — especially when you consider the age of the piece.
