$125 · Vintage Japanese black lacquer jewellery box
Vintage Japanese black lacquer jewellery box with applied jade and soapstone images of geishas. Circa 1930. This is a large jewellery box, which is fully lined in turquoise silk. There is a mirror on the underside of the lid and a removable tray, which includes a segmented section for rings and which is fitted over an open bottom level. The outside of the box has golden hand-painted details. The applied and etched images of the geishas and birdcage on the lid have been carved out of jade, soapstone and painted bone. The brass lock is included and the brass hinges are intact. The lighter areas appearing in different spots in the photos are due to the lighting and are not areas of discolouration. This is a beautifully crafted box, which is in excellent used condition.
The box measures 12½ inches (32 cm) by 8½ inches (21.5 cm) and is 4 inches (10 cm) tall. The lighter areas appearing in different spots in the photos are due to the lighting and are not areas of discolouration.
