This charming yellow biscuit barrel with a blue bird on the front and side was made in England. The barrel is ceramic and the lid and handle are silver plate. The front of the jar is marked, "C.W.S EPNS" and the base is stamped, "Made in England". There are additional silver plate marks on the lid (see photos). The C.W.S mark is for Co-Operative Wholesale Society, Manchester England. The company was founded in 1863 and produced C.W.S Brand goods for the Co-Operative Societies throughout the UK including: food, furniture, clothing, and household products. In 2001 the name was changed to The Co-Operative Group. The "Made in England" stamp on this biscuit barrel dates it to the 20th century.
