Log In needed $60 · Antique Gaudy Welsh creamer
Report AdAntique Gaudy Welsh creamer. Circa 1850. Originally manufactured in Wales (and later in Great Britain) for the export market, the name Gaudy Welsh was coined by Americans due to its popularity with the Welsh who emigrated to the United States. In Great Britain the patterns are known as Swansea Cottage. This cheerful creamer was hand-made and hand-decorated in the typical Gaudy Welsh colours of cobalt blue, and shades of russet, green and lustre on a cream background. This is a bright and cheerful piece.
Dimensions
The piece is 4 inches (10.5 cm) at its tallest point, 6 inches (15.5 cm) from spout tip to the end of the handle, and 3½ inches (9 cm) wide.
Condition
Gaudy Welsh was intended for everyday use and was handmade; therefore there are signs of age and use — specifically, the lustre along the inside edge has worn away (see close-up photo). However, there are no cracks, chips or crazing.
